Fall protection in the construction industries
In the construction industries over 400 workers die each year from falls in the United States alone. The US Department of Labor (DOL) lists falls as one of the leading causes of traumatic occupational death, accounting for 28% of all occupational fatalities from trauma.
Workers who habitually work at heights can forget the danger they are in and how one small slip can lead to disaster. Those particularly at risk work on roofing, scaffolding or on suspended platforms.
To reduce the risks, workers should be trained appropriately and adhere to workplace safety guidelines, including OSHA/CSA and use equipment that adheres to the latest ANSI standards.
An OSHA study estimated that for every $1 invested in good safety and health programs, $4 to $6 are saved in other costs.
